How many harbor seals do you have?
Shedd has four harbor seals.

What are their names? What is the origin of the names?
The harbor seals already had names when we got them. Their names are Orange, Ariel, Sirius and Rasal.

When were the harbor seals born?
Our harbor seals were born in 1982, 1986 and 1990.

How much do the harbor seals weigh?
The harbor seals range from 110 to 150 pounds.

What do the harbor seals eat in the wild?
In the wild, harbor seals eat mostly fish, squid, octopus and shrimp. They also eat clams and snails.

What do the harbor seals eat at Shedd?
The harbor seals eat herring, capelin and squid. They eat eight to 10 pounds of food a day.

Where did you get your harbor seals?
Orange and Ariel are from the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The older is a rehabbed animal, and the younger seal is the offspring of a rehabbed mother. Sirius and Rasal, also rehabbed, are from the Aquarium for Wildlife Conservation in New York.

Where do harbor seals live in the wild?
Harbor seals live in cold and temperate waters worldwide.

How big do harbor seals get?
Adult males weigh up to 250 pounds. Females are somewhat smaller.

When can the harbor seals reproduce?
Females can reproduce at 4 to 5 years; males at 3 to 7 years.

How fast can harbor seals swim?
Harbor seals can swim up to 11 miles per hour.

How deep can harbor seals dive?
Harbor seals can dive to 300 feet.
