Over the years, Shedd's mission
has expanded to promote the enjoyment, appreciation and conservation of aquatic
life and environments. Through its global collection of animals and its
educational programs, Shedd Aquarium's goal is to enhance public understanding
of aquatic ecosystems and foster a conservation ethic.
That conservation ethic is based
on a vision of a global environment in which ecosystems are healthy, understood
and valued. To make progress toward that vision, Shedd Aquarium will be a leader
in advancing aquatic conservation by influencing decisions and creating
innovative programs and community partnerships.
Conservation and conservation education is intrinsic to everything we do at Shedd
Aquarium, from our "green" efforts and building energy efficiency to endangered
species studies, as well as programming, exhibits and marketing.
Shedd continually looks for ways to make an impact, locally and regionally.
We educate our guests on conservation issues happening right here in Illinois.
As the World's Aquarium, our conservation efforts
reach out to make an impact beyond our walls. Our conservation field programs
and partnerships allow us to use our expertise in key environments across the
globe.
