Over the years, Shedd's mission has expanded to promote the enjoyment, appreciation and conservation of aquatic life and environments. Through its global collection of animals and its educational programs, Shedd Aquarium's goal is to enhance public understanding of aquatic ecosystems and foster a conservation ethic.
That conservation ethic is based on a vision of a global environment in which ecosystems are healthy, understood and valued. To make progress toward that vision, Shedd Aquarium will be a leader in advancing aquatic conservation by influencing decisions and creating innovative programs and community partnerships.
