Chicago’s Third-Annual Designer of the Year Awards Gala
On Thursday February 6, Chicago’s most prestigious names in interior design gathered at the Merchandise Mart to await the result of more than 90,000 votes cast for this year’s interior designer of the year.
The announcement by John Cannon and Cary Frank came in just one word: Richar.
Recognized at the third-annual Chicago Interior Designer of the Year Awards Gala for making a significant impact on Chicago’s design community, Richar is known for embracing aesthetic and technical excellence in every facet of interior design—and encompassing a wide variety of styles from classical and traditional to transitional and contemporary.
“As one of the few times each year the design community gathers, this event was created to celebrate and recognize the vast array of talent and designers who demonstrate exceptional skill and and a focus on civil responsibility,” said Arlyn Hernandez, senior managing editor of Luxe Interiors + Design magazine.
But Richar’s announcement wasn’t the only excitement of the night. Constantly moving spotlights and pink accent colors paired with decadent bites and drinks to have the crowd of more than 500 excited and indulging from the 6 p.m. start.
Sponsored by The Design Center at the Merchandise Mart and Luxe Interiors + Design magazine, the gala was also used as a moment to remember the great Maya Romanoff with a touching tribute video.
“Maya was colored socks.”
“He was ambitious—a force to be reckoned with.”
“He was an experimenter who found his life’s work in a tie-dye shirt he sold at Woodstock.”
His wife, Joyce also spoke to thank the community for their support and recognition of his impact on interior design as a whole.
