Midwest public relations award competition.
CHICAGO (June 5, 2014)—The Publicity Club of Chicago hosted it’s 55th Annual Golden Trumpet Awards on June 4, attracting more than 500 attendees to the Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Chicago, to honor the most creative and successful public relations campaigns of 2013. I Imagine was honored with a Gold Trumpet for Marketing and Branding as a testament of our work with WFMT Exploring Music that began in July of 2012.
“We are honored to have won such a prestigious award for our work on this project,” says Alena Tsimis, managing director of I Imagine. “With our specialty in brand strategy and activation, it is a true validation by our peers of our ability to deliver quality results to our clients.”
Steve Robinson, Executive Producer of Exploring Music and General Manager of WFMT & WFMT 98.7 FM, had the idea of taking the long-beloved Exploring Music radio program online, envisioning a platform that allowed the shows 400,000+ listeners to play back shows they had missed. After initiating an email campaign to gauge interest in such a platform, Robinson reached out to I Imagine to answer the call of thousands of listeners who wanted to stream their favorite compositions on-demand.
By combining our technology-savvy with WFMT’s passion for classical music, we created a fresh perspective of an old favorite. From concept to execution, the team developed Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin, a subscription-based, music-streaming website, and helped achieve its yearly membership goal within three months of launching.
“We’re all completely bowled over by how robust the response has been,” Robinson says, “and there isn’t any evidence that it will be slowing down soon.”
The initiative resulted in exceeding goals by more than 160%. Within three months of launching, the website accomplished its yearlong goal of 1,000 new members. Some highlights:
- Exploring Music is the only by-subscription show online in public broadcasting
- Exploring Music brought classical music to new audience
- Large educational companies are now in the process of making the show available to schools and libraries nationwide
- Exploring Music became a source of education to high schools students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get access to classical music education.
“The Golden Trumpet is the premier awards program for Chicagoland communications profes-sionals,” said David Brimm, PCC president and president of BrimmComm, Inc.
The PCC also honored former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. The Nobel Peace Prize winner served as keynote speaker of the Golden Trumpet Awards and received a Special Award of Honor. Adding to the prestige of the awards gala was Chicago television journalist Bill Kurtis, who served as this year’s emcee.
“The annual Golden Trumpet Awards program recognizes PR campaigns that educate, entertain, and inspire. These campaigns ‘move the needle’ and get results for the companies, clients, prod-ucts and services they represent,” said PCC board member Jon Kaplan, media relations director at GreenMark Public Relations. “Winning a Golden or Silver Trumpet is the pinnacle of recognition in the Chicago PR community.”
