S is for Socialize: IIDA Frankly Speaking Event
Last month nearly 150 interior designers, architects, and product manufacturers mingled in Chicago’s renowned Ivy Room at Tree Studios, where the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Illinois Chapter hosted their Frankly Speaking Lecture Series, honoring Chicago’s own Joyce Romanoff as guest speaker.
Sprinkled among the crowd were members of our team, as we strive to continuously immerse ourselves in the world of design. We couldn’t think of a better way to do that than listen to Joyce Romanoff speak about the experiences that led her to the astonishing career she has had. Our favorite anecdote of the night was about where she draws inspiration: “World travel, shopping exploits and conversations with designers. That’s how we design,” she said.
We even had the opportunity to watch a special presentation in which Maya Romanoff artist Bopha Ly Om demonstrated how to make two beautiful wallpaper designs: Ajiro Sunburst and Anniversary Crystal.
The series is part of the IIDA’s annual recognition of one individual who proves that “the Power of Design can cross disciplines, definitions, cultures, and continents,” while enriching both our professions and our lives. They select an individual whose experiences inspire those around him or her to break free from their “immediate spheres of influence” and understand the benefits of other viewpoints.
